Private / NHS dental in UK / Turkey vs. Private dental in Hungary

Private dentist abroad - Budapest, Hungary

The world is changing (not exactly an original or prophetic statement) and consumerism is reaching new heights. There is competition for most everything we need or want a and the options continue to grow. Who would have thought 30 years ago that private medical clinics and medical tourism would be the norm. Instead of the NHS designated dentist, you have the option of private clinics at home and abroad, Budapest Dental is one example of this.

As we have seen in many countries, specifically the UK, the nationalized medical system has come up short and in many cases is just completely incompetent. Arguing that your healthcare is “free” doesn’t hold up too well when you have limited access to basic services as well as emergency services. For most people going to a private clinic is not an option because of the cost and instead of treatment must suffer in agony.

What are the Options for the Failed National Health Systems?

Previously patients who need procedures not covered by the health system would go to a private clinic at home or maybe abroad. Cosmetic surgery was the biggest reason for going to a private clinic and many were willing to travel abroad to have surgery which was much less expensive as well as certain procedures which were not available at home. Unfortunately, with the NHS having so many issues the ability to get the most basic of care, whether dental or surgery, has forced patients to look elsewhere.

Private Dental Clinics in the UK are not cheap and can be in the area of 3-4 times more expensive than elsewhere such as Hungary and Turkey. If you are a private clinic in the London area your costs for overhead can be downright oppressive. International cities such as London have all the facilities you need but at a steep price. From the equipment to the real estate and cost of the doctors, you’ll be paying out the ass just to walk into the door.

Because of the high costs in London and elsewhere in the UK we have seen many actresses and “celebrities” flaunt their newfound bodies and faces while discussing their trials and tribunes. Some of the results look okay, others seem somewhat questionable, and there are those that are just horrific.

Why do Patients go to Turkey for Medical Procedures?

Turkey was the initial go to place for these cheap procedures which were either a lot less expensive or were not available in the UK. In countries and regions such as the UK, United States and Europe there are procedures that are not considered medically safe and therefore not offered in the above countries. As a last resort many patients flew to these countries where they would be able to get the preferred surgery. Sometimes it would be a success and sometimes it wouldn’t.

In the United Kingdom, the regulation and legality of cosmetic surgery procedures are primarily overseen by the General Medical Council (GMC) and the Care Quality Commission (CQC). While most cosmetic surgery procedures are legal in the UK, there are certain restrictions and regulations in place to protect the public’s safety and well-being.

The following types of cosmetic surgery procedures are generally considered illegal in the UK:

  • Female genital mutilation (FGM): FGM is a harmful practice and is considered a criminal offense in the UK. It involves the partial or total removal of external female genitalia for non-medical reasons.
  • Surgical procedures on underage individuals: In most cases, individuals under the age of 18 cannot undergo cosmetic surgery unless there is a medical necessity or they provide informed consent, and a qualified professional deems it appropriate.
  • Cosmetic procedures performed by unqualified practitioners: It is illegal for unqualified individuals to perform surgical procedures, including cosmetic surgeries. Only registered medical professionals with the necessary qualifications and training are legally allowed to carry out these procedures.
  • Certain injectable treatments: The administration of certain injectable treatments, such as botulinum toxin (Botox) and dermal fillers, must be performed by qualified medical professionals. There have been discussions about potentially implementing stricter regulations for these procedures to ensure patient safety.

It’s worth noting that regulations and guidelines may change over time, so it’s important to consult with authoritative sources such as the GMC, CQC, or reputable medical professionals for the most up-to-date information on the legality of specific cosmetic procedures in the UK.

As stated above there are legal and medical requirements to provide these procedures which act as an extra layer of cost through compliance. With all of the above procedures being provided by medical professionals there is another added extra layer of cost. Now if you decide to go to Turkey where many procedures are not done by qualified medical professionals, then the dental costs will be much lower although your exposure to a failed procedure becomes much higher.

Turkey: surgical treatments can go wrong

In recent weeks there have two publicized cases of women who have had horrific outcomes due to their surgery in Turkey. Both of these women went for the popular BBL (Brazilian Butt Lift) which is in simple terms injecting a substance into the buttocks to give that “sexy” Brazilian look. One woman became extremely ill but survived and the other unfortunately passed away. I’ve posted two links below which explains more in-depth what occurred.

With loose regulations for these Private Clinics there will always be issues. People need to realize that with any medical procedure, whether it is heart surgery or Botox, there is always a risk. Add into the mix unqualified “doctors” and those looking to just make a profit you have created a recipe for disaster.

Why is there such a Demand for Hungarian Private Dental Clinics?

Cost, Care, and Quality! The cost of medical procedures in Hungary, specifically Dental Procedures, are around 60%-70% less expensive than those in the UK. In Turkey the costs might be the same, but the standard of care is well below what you have in Hungary. Private clinics in the UK are very good, but for 90% of the population these clinics are out of reach because of cost.

Flying direct to Budapest, Hungary from the UK is a very affordable option for those looking for an affordable private clinic with a high standard of care. If you live in the UK chances are that there is a direct flight to Budapest from an airport within an hour drive from your home which can cost in the range of £100 for a return ticket. In many instances the accommodation/hotel is included in the price of the procedure.

Quality, price, hospitality – a tradition in Budapest, Hungary

No matter the price you are paying it is imperative that the quality of care is of the highest standard. As I have shown in the above links as well as all of the cases which you can find online, trading quality for cost is not a long-term solution. Obviously, you do want to save money but do not trade quality to save just a few pounds. I see many people going to Turkey just to save a few hundred quid and end up with serious issues. As stated above the differences between the rules and regulations governing health care in Europe (Hungary) and Turkey are very different.

Always do your research before committing to a private clinic abroad. If you feel as though you’re being pressured and feel uncomfortable then stay home. There is plenty of information online which can help steer you in the right direction. Budapest is a great option and after some due diligence you will more than likely opt for our private clinics.
