I remember in the early 70s when my father brought home one of the first hand-held calculators manufactured by Texas Instruments. It was a very basic piece of kit which only had addition, subtraction, division and multiplication…..that was it! At the time it cost $100 which in 2023 dollars is approximately $722. Today a calculator with those basic functions would cost around $1 to manufacture. For $772 you can get a new iPhone!
My reason for spinning this yarn is to put into perspective how advances in technology eventually leads to a better life and at a lower cost. The initial research and “products” do cost more but eventually with competition and refinement, these products become less expensive. Think of your personal experience with your smart phones and the cost 10 years ago and what you get in 2023 in terms of power and functions.
